Family Program

Healing the Entire Family from Addiction

Overview of Our Family Therapy Program

At Spirit Mountain Recovery, we believe that recovery begins with the individual, while they are facing addiction and mental health challenges. It is essential for them to heal and become whole before the family can be reassembled. We have found that families can finally feel relieved when their loved one receives treatment in a safe environment and focuses on personal growth.

As our clients are making progress in their recovery, our clinical team introduces family therapy to help identify and address family issues, enabling all parties to work toward the most favorable outcome possible.

What is Family Behavior Therapy?

Family Behavior Therapy (FBT), which has demonstrated positive results in both adults and adolescents, is aimed at addressing not only substance use problems but other co-occurring problems as well. This includes conduct disorders, child mistreatment, depression, family conflict, and unemployment. FBT combines behavioral contracting with contingency management. Treatment typically consists of 15 sessions over 6 months; sessions initially are 90 minutes weekly and gradually decrease to 60 minutes monthly as participants progress in therapy.

Therapeutic Benefits

Our clients participate in their treatment planning and choose specific interventions from a menu of evidence-based treatment options. FBT involves the patient along with at least one significant other, such as a partner or parent (in the case of adolescents and young adults). Our therapists seek to engage families in applying the behavioral strategies taught in sessions in hopes they will acquire new skills to improve their home environment. Clients are encouraged to develop behavioral goals for preventing substance use which is anchored to a contingency management system.
