How Many People With A Drug Addiction Have Mental Health Issues?

According to the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), “approximately 7.9 million adults in the United States had co-occurring disorders in 2014….People with mental health disorders are more likely than people without mental health disorders to experience an alcohol or substance use disorder.”

Co-occurring disorders are often very difficult to diagnose.  This is due to the complexity of symptoms or their severity.  It is commonplace for individuals to receive treatment for their addiction, but not for the co-occurring mental health issues underlying the addiction. Quite often treatment centers have overlooked, inadequately assessed or lack the professional staff capable of assessing and then treating co-occurring mental health issues.  The result, ski high recidivism rates for the individuals they treat.

Spirit Mountain Recovery is in agreement with SAMHSA’s statement that “people with co-occurring disorders are best served through integrated treatment…that addresses mental health and substance use disorders at the same time, often lowering costs and creating better outcomes.” SAMSHA goes on to say that “increasing awareness and building capacity in service systems are important in helping identify and treat co-occurring disorders. Early detection and treatment can improve treatment outcomes and the quality of life for those who need these services.”

Probuphine™ Implants Makes Treatment Of Drug Addiction At Drug Rehabs Easier

With the recent approval for the use of Probuphine Implants™ in addiction treatment, we are experiencing a continuation of the progress being made in medicinal management in the addiction recovery process. Anything that eases the physical pain involved in detoxification and assists in the early medicinal management of addiction treatment like these innovative new Probuphine Implants™ and the increasingly prevalent Saboxone™ tapers is welcomed news.

Recovering from a substance use addiction can be a physically painful and emotionally challenging experience. But, for those who are open-minded, willing and can commit themselves to a vigorous program of treatment, there can be a day when they put down the self-destructive drugs they have used and pick up the tools of recovery and solutions for living a drug-free life.

Risks Are Involved With Probuphine™ Implants In Drug Addiction Treatment

The manufacturer of Probuphine Implants™ has also warned of serious complications that can arise from insertion and removal of Probuphine Implants™ in the upper arm such as expulsions, protrusions, nerve damage, embolisms, infections, and death. All Doctors and healthcare providers must complete a training program and become certified in Probuphine™ insertions and removals. Inquire as to your care givers credentials to prescribe, insert and remove Probuphine Implants™ before initiating treatment.

Another predicament that can arise from the use of Probuphine Implants™ is trying to adjust a patient’s medication dosing once an implant is in place. Occasionally, some patients will need to be prescribed a greater dosage of buprenorphine, so these implants would obviously not be the ideal solution in these cases. Probuphine Implants™ work best for individuals that can get along with a minimal amount of medicine during treatment.
